Fire safety starts before the building opens
Northern Mindanao fire safety deserves attention during design, coordination and construction—not only after an emergency. BFP Region 10 data reported by the Philippine Information Agency recorded 644 fire incidents from January through July 2026, with faulty-wiring incidents accounting for more than 60% of reported fires.
Why the latest fire data matters to CDO construction
BFP identified overloaded outlets, electrical overloads, arcing, loose connections and unsafe “octopus” wiring among recurring hazards. For Cagayan de Oro builders and property owners, that makes prevention a design, installation, inspection and maintenance responsibility—not merely an emergency-response concern.
Electrical loads must reflect the building’s actual use. BFP described prevention, preparation, response and recovery as four areas of action. In construction, prevention begins with coordinated drawings, realistic equipment schedules, approved materials, proper installation, documented inspections and clear turnover records.
Renovations and fit-outs need special attention. Older circuits may not have been designed for today’s air-conditioning, kitchen equipment, computers and commercial loads. An available outlet does not automatically mean the system has adequate capacity.
